Fish Eagle Release!

FISH EAGLE.png

Some good news from Rhino Revolution during lockdown!

The magnificent Fish Eagle that we stabilised at the end of last year and referred to Dullstroom Bird Of Prey Rehabilitation Center to continue his rehabilitation was released onto Nkomazi Game Reserve where he will be monitored closely.

He is strong and healthy and was hunting well on his own so the decision was made to release him prior to lockdown, as we never want to keep animals in captivity longer than necessary.
It is important to note that Fish Eagles, like many predators, cannot just be released anywhere.
They are highly territorial and being a youngster, he would have been attacked and possibly killed if set free where a resident adult pair had already claimed their territory.
We are delighted to have been involved in giving this bird a second chance at life, even if it was just a small contribution compared to the massive undertaking by DBOPRC.
We are grateful for specialized rehabilitation centres like these that take rehabilitation and release so seriously.
Thank you Magdali and Frith for everything you do for our magnificent birds of prey!
