Black rhino with snare - found!!

WE FOUND HER!

Three days of searching by air and on foot and finally Rhino Revolution managed to find and dart the female black rhino. A week ago camera trap footage on the reserve showed wire attached to her back leg and this was obviously causing discomfort, so we HAD to investigate.

It was a huge challenge finding her, as the bush is so thick after good rains.

Finally today skilled trackers Colin Patrick , Hanno Nusch and Jakes Oosthuizen managed to track her and get a visual on her, so the helicopter could be called in, and the rhino could be darted from the air by the vet.

On examination the snare seemed to have been dislodged, but the wound was successfully treated.
Thankfully a happy ending!

A huge thank you to #RhinoRevolutionUK who funded the operation (including the flying time), to chopper pilots Jana Meyer (#HopeforWildlifehelicopterservices) and Gerry McDonald , spotter plane pilot Bruce McDonald , to #ProvetAnimalHospital’s Dr Peter Stewart Rogers and Janelle Goodrich, #ProtrackAntiPoachingUnit, Brent Leo-smith and the #PaintedDogTV team and to all the ground team and trackers who have worked so hard over the last few days.
