Endangered species are of course our priority – but when the local vet turns up with a juvenile fish eagle that needs help, it’s hard to say no.
The young bird was found alongside its nest on the ground. This had fallen out of a tree when the branch broke in heavy winds.
The bird was very weak and extremely emaciated and needing tube feeding and fluids until he became strong enough to stand up, walk around and eat solid food itself.
The orphanage staff are thrilled with its improvement, and will transfer it to a bird of prey centre for further rehabilitation and release. We will ring the bird's leg prior to it leaving, and continue to monitor its journey back to the wild.
